Content & Certification Requirements
The certification process begins with the “Maxi-Residency in Biological Dentistry, Biological Surgery, and Implantology Based on Guided Open Wound Healing (GOWH)” at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, conducted in collaboration with the Academy of Medical and Oral Regeneration. This program focuses on the prevention of cavitations after tooth extraction and covers immediate and delayed implantations, ridge preservation, cleaning of bone and extraction sockets, and the correct use of blood concentrates as part of health-focused dentistry.
After completing this residency, participants progress to the founder’s program, the “International Online Curriculum for Biological Innovations in Oral Surgery Based on GOWH”, led by Professor Shahram Ghanaati. This one-year hybrid curriculum combines in-person and online training to ensure participants remain aligned with the latest scientific knowledge and clinical innovations. Training emphasizes surgical techniques of GOWH, enabling participants to properly clean and treat cavitations while performing surgery in a safe and patient-centered manner.
For certification, participants must document a comprehensive set of clinical cases, each accompanied by pre- and post-surgery patient questionnaires to demonstrate clinical benefit:
-
50 Socket or ridge preservations after tooth extraction
-
50 Immediate implantations
-
50 Delayed implantations
-
25 Crestal sinus lifts after tooth extraction
-
25 Crestal sinus lifts after cavitation surgery in the atrophic upper jaw
-
50 Cavitation surgeries in the upper and lower jaw, each with 3D visualization plus histological and pathological evaluation
-
Enrollment on all upcoming continous education levels and associated live-surgery weekends
An essential requirement is the submission of tissue samples from every cavitation surgery for microbiological and histological analysis. This ensures rigorous documentation, advances scientific research, and deepens understanding of cavitation pathology. 3D visualization is also mandatory as a key element of surgical planning and follow-up.
This structured approach ensures that certification cannot be claimed without proven expertise. It prevents uncontrolled procedures under the label of “cavitation treatment” and establishes a sustainable, evidence-based framework for cavitation surgery with GOWH—driven by scientific rigor, uncompromising standards, and patient safety.
